The Iceland Academy of the Arts is a self-governing institution providing higher education in fine arts, theatre, dance, music, design, architecture, and art education.
It offers full time education at university level, emphasizing superior instruction and training for students who have passed the strictest admission requirements.
The Department of Performance Arts offers three different programs: Acting, Contemporary Dance and Theatre and Performance Making. The mission is to educate independent, resourceful and creative performing artists who possess necessary skills, courage and confidence to enter the broad landscape of the performing arts field. The department seeks to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and training in the performing arts, not only a technical and methodological foundation but also to broaden students’ minds and widen the scope of the performing arts practice, to encourage innovation and crossover with other disciplines.
